Hello! So, roleplaying. Basically, it's writing. But with other people, and you only control your character and a little bit of your surroundings so long as it does not heavily interfere with any of the other participants so long as they don't want it to.
Here are some links to good roleplay etiquette and not so great roleplaying.
On this site, it is preferred to be written and described, such as a novel would be written. (As opposed to " *action* talk ".) An example of this:
(^something like that^)
As for patterns, as the link for good etiquette eventually says, most threads will have patterns. Like taking turns to post, to make sure everyone has a chance to post. However, their "turn" may be skipped (in a thread with more than two people) if it is over 72 hours (three days) since the last post, given it is acceptable (such as no other players asked the skipped a question that needs an answer from that player).
When a thread is completed, please say it is your last post. Examples:
Any of the sort similar to these examples is good, as long as it is clear that you are completed in the thread.
A thread is not finished unless all participants have completed it and "left". Or the thread grows inactive for a week or longer, it could be considered "dead".

Shadow stepped up onto the branch and sat, her tail curling over her paws. "Greetings," she meowed. She flicked her ear in the direction of a noise, and soon looked in that direction, tail twitching.

When a thread is completed, please say it is your last post. Examples:
- Saying "finished for character name here"
- A special symbol, such as fin.
- In a template, putting a note in a red color for example, saying ended for this character
