As the lid of the pod opened, a cool fog clouded around the trembling cat. She was frozen for a couple thousand years, just routine, right? She kept thinking how cold it was in the pod, laying like an ancient Egyptian statue for millennia, and, for millennia, she'd like to think she was. But, her fur was still not dark enough for that. She was now conscious, and, not a goddess of any Terran, as she was hunched over in the cold. She took a deep breath and set a paw outside the pod.
A cold, hard, white tile floor greeted her. She sniffed the air, still as sterile as it'll ever be. Surrounding her were yet more pods identical to her own, different sizes, with a somewhat larger one next to hers in motion. A white light on it blipped once, twice, and then the large window went from frosted blue to cloudy gray.
Ignoring the pod for now, she padded over to the screen, and jumped onto the counter. She curled up in a corner to warm up, and kept an eye on the active pod.

Kiba felt a blanket of frigidness take hold of his body. He felt stiff yet numb as he slowly opened his eyes and awoke. It was cold. He moved his head around slowly and investigated his surroundings. He was in some sort of container with a glass window overhead that was too fogged up to see out of. He layed there for a moment in confusion. Not fear or anything of the sort, all he felt was raw confusion. Then he calmed, and began to lift himself up on his feet. Just as he began doing so the lid of the strange container which he resided lifted, and he could see a room of clean white tile and numerous other machines identical to his. He jumped out of his machine, hitting the ground with a slight jolt of pain, but then stretched and felt better. There was something in a corner he noticed almost immediately, a cat perhaps. It was indeed a feline he determined after squinting a little. "Who was this?", he wondered.

Shadow kept her deep blue gaze fixed on the newly awoken wolf. She flicked her tail and stood, gracefully stretching to show she meant no harm. She walked to the edge of the counter, and sat straight as a statue, letting her tail drape over the edge. She sniffed the air again, and tilted her head.
He'll not understand me if I speak, but it's worth a shot... She thought to herself a moment before meowing. Greetings. I'm Shadow. Who might you be? Shadow, instead of waiting for a reply that she wouldn't understand, stood, and poked her head behind the monitor. The small window was almost pitch black. She turned back to the black wolf and tilted her head.

The feline stood and stretched for a moment, then walked closer to him to the edge of the counter and sat. He sniffed and determined it was a she, felt the atmosphere around her to be a calming one. She was not aggressive or hostile, so he adjusted his body language to convey that nor was he. Kiba then heard a series of "meow"s before the cat went quiet. Perhaps it meant to speak to him, but he could not understand. He whined to convey that he did not know what it was this feline speaks, and turned his head looking down the hall to examine the room as he awaited her to do something else.

Shadow turned her ears towards the wolf as he whined. She looked at him and followed his gaze. The door was left open for them, probably the panicked scientists too lazy to seal them up. Definitely not a goddess if these humans forgot to seal me in. She jumped down, landing lightly beside him. The open hallway seemed to be the only way out, and so she walked to the threshold, keeping a cautious ear pointed back at the wolf. She sniffed around, flicked her tail for the wolf to follow, and started walking, occasionally sniffing around.

The feline jumped down off the counter and began heading for the doorway, sniffing around occasionally. She must have seen him looking in that general direction and inferred that he possessed interest in exploring this apparent structure in which they currently resided. He followed her, sniffing the floor and air as she was to get a better picture of where they were, as they walked towards a doorway at the end of the hall.

I should've gotten more than a glimpse of the monitor... Shadow thought to herself. Soon she caught a familiar scent, and veered off to a closed door. She sat and laid her tail over her paws, studying the door carefully. Soon, she started walking forward, right through the door, which parted like curtains for her. She kept sniffing and soon discovered a carcass.
Well, this isn't Terran... The dead heap of flesh smelt fresh, like blood. Sour blood, and it had large glowing horns on the back of its head, and in what she guessed was its mouth was a half-eaten Terran mouse. There's something wrong with this picture... She sniffed, but her nose burned at the proximity. She didn't smell anything, so inched closer to smell. Immediately, her whole body jumped, head jerked back, eyes squinting, ears flat. It smelt like acid, rotting flesh, and maggots. She shook her head violently and jumped up to a nearby counter, growling quietly in annoyance. There must be other life wherever we are, and it must be able to get inside. And apparently the humans who took us didn't have the manners to keep mice out- wait... She looked at the mouse again. After some millennia, it still looked like a mouse's head and paws. She squinted, her eyes narrowed in thought.

Kiba saw the cat stop at the door and study it carefully. It appeared to have some sort of layer in the area of where one would expect to walk, so it confused Kiba as well. However the cat discovered that it was possible to push this curtain-like material aside to pass, and so he did, following her lead. Soon after they passed the door Kiba saw a carcass, which the feline had already begun to investigate. He walked closer to it using caution, but quickly backed away when he saw the cat jump onto a nearby counter as if in repulsion to its smell. He sniffed the air and realized the smell was indeed quite repulsive, and subsequently kept his sniffing to a minimal. And then he looked over and noticed the feline's eyes squinting, perhaps in thought, at a mouse within the creatures jaws. Kiba must have had the same thought she did in that moment, "How did a mouse end up here, in this strange structure with nothing to eat for what he supposed to be (though he did not know for certain) quite a long time?".

Shadow could only come to the conclusion that the mouse must've been frozen too, but where? And what killed the alien- if it was even dead? It smelt awful, perhaps it was toxic to Terrans, and so vice versa and the mouse killed it? She flicked her tail in amusement, blinking her eyes back to the present. A mouse, killing that beast? Ridiculous.
She examined the room, another pitch black porthole window, but nothing else interesting to her. She walked to the door and dropped right in front of the door. She glanced back at the wolf before striding outside, ears back listening to whether or not he followed. She just wanted to get away from the stench of alien decay as soon as she could.

The feline stopped to think for another second, perhaps about the mouse, and then moved onward through the next door after looking about the room once more. Kiba followed, after taking a moment to observe the strange creature once more. He then had a realization. Perhaps the mouse had been frozen in one of these strange machines that litter the structure just as he and the feline had been. He wondered if the feline had had this thought occur as well.
Kiba noticed the cat looking back at him as he remained lost in thought, and quickly came back to reality and caught up with her. He could tell she did not desire to stay around the stench much longer.

Once the wolf caught up, Shadow moved on towards the end of the hallway. Other doors didn't offer any interesting scent trails. Soon the hall came to a turn, and more fabric-type doors with no interest, except one. She checked over her shoulder with both ear and eye for the wolf, and once she confirmed his location she ducked inside a wide doorway.
There lay more pods, small. She stepped up to one closest to herself, and sniffed it. Nothing. The window showed a squirrel, content, curled up under his big fluffy tail asleep. Prey, in case the outside prey is toxic to us? She looked up and down the rows, one of the smaller ones was smashed. She crept over to incestigate and wrinkled her nose at the faint trace of the alien. That answers that. Now how would it have gotten in? She further examined the increasing sizes of prey, and paused in front of a moose. It looked alien to her, but she would still prefer sinking her teeth into this as opposed to an alien rat-catcher. She recognized a flock of starlings, and other prey she used to chase back on Terra.
She turned back to the wolf and then wandered around outside the maze of pods.

Kiba noticed, and appreciated the fact that the feline seemed to clearly be waiting for him whenever he fell behind. He tried to keep close as he followed her through another curtained doorway. Inside were more machines, increasing in size the further down the room one went. The feline looked at and then left one nearby. He looked once she had walked away and saw it held a squirrel. It appeared that the machines did indeed host a variety of species. Though the reason as to why alluded him. He remembered nothing of how he had gotten here or where this place was. He looked up and saw the feline had moved to another machine, and he caught up with her. This one appeared broken. It must have been the one in which the mouse had resided. As the cat wandered about the room he kept close and took note of the animals inside each machine they passed.

Soon, Shadow came upon a large container, a green tinted glass-like front that showed its contents. What appeared to be meat, among other things, were floating inside, stationary. The amount of prey in the room told Shadow this must be food for perhaps others like herself and this wolf. She wandered back around to a certain fairly large prey-case. This one may feed both of us, but I'll have to kill it before it smashes any others.
She examined the case, and saw a light similar to the one that lit up and blinked on the wolf's. She noticed a small screen, characters changing steadily on it. There was a small red circle underneath it, and Shadow wondered what else could something that contrasting be for, than to reverse the motives originally intended with the machine?
She glanced over her shoulder and her eyes flashed mischievously at the wolf. Something told her that based on this look she gave him, he would understand her next amused meow: Get ready. She quickly reared up and tapped the red with her outstretched paw. She quickly hopped over a pod and crouched, peeking out from behind it where the prey couldn't see.

The feline walked up to a fairly large machine, larger than himself in fact, and began tampering with something on the side of it after analyzing it for a moment. Kiba saw her look at him, with a definitively mischievous glance and an "meow" before she pressed a button on the side of the machine which caused the lid on top of it to open. The cat hid, so Kiba quickly dashed behind another pod and lay quiet as well. He supposed she was thinking "food", and he didn't blame her. He felt an emptiness in his stomach as well. But why such a large machine? What could possib- Out of the machine emerged an animal larger than himself, and he knew what it was... "She had to have a moose.." Kiba thought to himself. "Well" he thought "at least they'll get a little exercise after such a long sleep doing nothing but lying stationary. As soon as the moose was fully out of the capsule, Kiba bolted out from behind his hiding place and lunged at the side of its neck. He was in hunting mode now.

Shadow was impressed by the wolf's quick attack time, but soon the moose swung its head to the side in an attempt to block, not noticing her. She analyzed its behavior, and crept through the cover of fog. She nipped at its ankles and it raised each. She dodged its stomping hooves and at the first opportunity started to weaken it by digging her claws into its shoulder and raking them down its leg. Crimson immediately oozed out of it and it let out a cry of pain before thrashing around. She retreated into the dispersing fog, and pounced directly onto it. It stumbled, and she hopped off of it in the opposite direction to which it fell. She was pretty sure the wolf could kill it from there, and sat atop a pod and licked some thick blood off her paws.
